Conventions and Codes of Music Magazines
The conventions and codes consist of, Genre of music (rock, pop, indie, heavy metal, etc.) and most importantly Audience, this can be from age bracket, gender and race, to labelling them in socio-economic classes which refers to people’s occupations, education, economic status and background. People can be targeted by psychographics which is looking at the way people see themselves and the kind of lifestyle they would like to have, such as, rebel (someone who doesn’t obey rules), trendies (want people to think highly of them), puritan (people who want to feel as though they have done their duty), innovator (want to make their mark on the world). All these things contribute to the selling of the magazines, with the right audience. And you can tell all the codes and conventions by sometimes just looking at the colours and text used on the front cover of the magazine.
